MIT Information

April 16th, 2008, 3:59 pm

As most of you know, we will be taking the Lucky Star Bus from New York to Boston for the MIT Open Competition.

The bus stop in New York is located on 69 Chrystie Street (near the Grand Street B or D Train).

The bus stop in Boston is located on 700 Atlantic Ave., the South Station Bus Terminal on the 3rd Floor, Gate #13. (near the Red Line)

We will be taking the Boston Subway system to our housing locations. Most people will be housed on campus, so it will not be necessary for the transportation stipend. Mimi will pay for those traveling on the 4:00 PM bus, and Eugene will do the same for those on the 7:00 PM bus. Those travelling at other times, please save your receipts and you will be reimbursed over the weekend. For a map of the MBTA (Boston’s Subway), please click here.

Everyone who has submitted a request should have their boarding passes e-mailed to them. Please print a copy and bring it with you along with a photo ID. If you misplaced the email, click your name below for a link to the passes. Below are your travel groups (please arrive at the station at least 45 minutes in advance). In addition, there are preliminary housing assignments. Please stay tuned to the website for any changes. Thank you.

Where to practice?

April 8th, 2008, 5:18 pm

Kimmel Dance Studio (Room 606): You need to book this studio from Kimmel Operations which is on the 6th floor. This needs to be done two days in advance if you want to reserve it for a specific date and time. If it is reserved by someone else who does not show up, you can take it after 15 minutes has passed of the booked hour. You can also show up anytime when it is available and just use it for the current hour. The studio is spacious and has no columns to get in the way. There is a CD player, a tape player and a TV. If you bring your cables you could plug your MP3 player in the TV or in the CD player and use its speakers. For more information visit the Kimmel Dance Studio Website.

Brittany Residence Hall has a dance studio which can be booked by its residents. If you are not a resident of Brittany then you need one to book it for you and stay with you while you dance.

Usually there is a lot of free space around the elevators on each floor of Kimmel and on some of the floors there isn’t really a lot of activity, especially in the evenings. The 4th floor is usually deserted unless there is some special event in the E&L Auditorium.

The UC level of Tisch hall is also really big (perfect for Standard) and is mostly deserted on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Both of these areas are open to all students and are not studios but they can be useful for a little bit of practice. If you are lucky, you might be able to book a room on the 9th floor of Kimmel from Kimmel Operations. They usually have carpet on the floor which gets in the way but it’s suitable.

Any other locations? Post.

Team Jackets

March 15th, 2008, 2:30 pm

Hey Guys,

Team Jacket Order

I have posted a list of everyone that has either purchased or requested a team jacket on our website. Please check to make sure your size and name are spelled correctly. If you have not yet paid, please do so as soon as possible. If you are away on break, I will take payments after break. If you are in the city, please contact me or drop off the money in an envelope to the front desk at Coles where I will later pick it up (just let me know that you left it there).

I will be processing the order Monday morning, so I am assuming everything is correct. If any changes need to be done, please email me at es14060@gmail.com .

Finally, if you know someone that is not on the list, and would like a jacket, please tell them to contact me. Once I place this order, we cannot change anything, and you would have to wait until next year to make a new purchase.

Thanks,
Eugene

Rutgers Survey

For Rutgers, please be aware of the following:

The team will be traveling as a group on Saturday morning, and taking the 7:14 train from Penn Station. If you would like to attend the social/performance on Friday night and then stay at Rutgers overnight, that is fine as well. However, please let me know by March 25th, as housing is on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you want to go Friday night, try to arrange a time for a group of at least ten to meet (group discounts :) ) and Eugene can thus get the tickets in advance.

For those traveling on Saturday with the team, we will have a second group for those not dancing Smooth or Standard IF we can get 10 or more people. Please indicate on the survey when you would like to travel if leaving on Saturday (morning or later on).

Assuming the competition ends on time, we will be taking the 6:33 pm train back to New York.

MIT Survey

This one is pretty straight forward. We’ll be taking a bus.

Remember, the deadline is March 25th.

A Note On Housing

March 6th, 2008, 4:57 pm

Some issues have come up with housing inconsistencies, and I just wanted to put up a reminder about some key housing points:

  • Alina is responsible for making all housing arrangements for competitions. So if you have any housing changes/questions/concerns, contact her by emailing rainbowkaine@yahoo.com - information given to other officers may not get passed to me (Alina).
  • You MUST fill out a survey and answer the related housing questions. There have been a few instances where people do not fill them out but I see you are registered and try to find you and make sure. I’m not going to continue this detective work - if you don’t fill out an INDIVIDUAL survey, I will now assume you are not going (even if your partner lists you in his/her survey). Please guys, these surveys are a great way of making things run smoothly - don’t ignore them.
  • If there are unforeseen changes to information you submitted earlier in the survey, email me and I’ll make the necessary adjustments - but PLEASE don’t wait until the last minute.

Thanks!
